North of Havøysund you find the island Hjelmsøy. On this particular more than 100 bird species are registered. The most spectacular sight is the bird mountain Hjmsøystauren with its lard colonies of common guillemot, razorbill and puffin. One of Norway’s largest colonies of sea eagle can also be found here. If you observant, you might also catch a glimpse of gerfalcon.
Hjelmsøy is only accsible with private vessel. With a boat like M/S Ingrid Maria you will get an absolute close encounter with the mountain and be at the very centre of the bird reserve.
